WIIH-Univision Indiana Receives The Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Award For Community Relations
WIIH-Univision Indiana received the “Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Award for Community Relations” awarded at the seventh annual “Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Awards” ceremony earlier today at Conseco Fieldhouse.
“This award is of great significance to us because it not only exemplifies our work at WIIH-Univision, but also the efforts that our sister stations WISH-TV and MyNDY make to reinforce diversity,” said WIIH station manager Marco Dominguez.
The “Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Awards” acknowledge Indianapolis businesses and organizations that embrace, celebrate and apply holistic inclusion and p art icipation of a diverse people; and have excellent work-force diversity, opportunities for diversity education and communication with the organizations, community activities which encourage diversity in the community and leadership in developing supportive diversity strategies through the organization.
“We are honored that WIIH has been recognized with this award and for what it represents,” said Jeff White, president and general manager of WIIH, WISH-TV and WNDY. “Our stations always strive to reflect our diverse community and the viewers that we serve. Whether it’s through local news coverage or public service and community events; we are dedicated to making our community a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
WIIH was honored for its dedication to diversity representing the vision of these awards. WIIH p art icipates and supports many community activities and events throughout the year. Highlights include Fiesta Indianapolis, Cinco de Mayo celebration, Hispanic Day at the Indiana State Fair and El Día de los Niño, as well as other community events. It has also worked closely with organizations such as La Plaza, 500 Festival, Indianapolis Recorder, ALMA, Mexican Consulate, Indianapolis Urban League, Wishard Hospital and many others. The station recently aired a public safety program in collaboration with the Mayor’s Commission on Latino Affairs to raise awareness about crime prevention and other crime-related issues.
WIIH-Univision is Indiana ’s only Spanish-language television station. This year, WIIH will celebrate its fifth year on the air and serving the central Indiana Hispanic community. WISH-TV, sister station to WIIH won the “Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Award” in 2006.
